The folks over at Evernote describe their product like this:
Evernote allows you to easily capture information in any environment using whatever device or platform you find most convenient, and makes this information accessible and searchable at anytime, from anywhere.
While there are still rough edges, there is a revolution in the details here. Evernote currently provides rich clients for Windows, Mac and even a feature rich web interface. By default all of your notebooks synchronize through the server, so not only are your notebooks backed up offsite, but you can search them from the clients or any web connected computer (the mobile interface is pretty sleek) and if you have multiple machines (like I do), you can get to your notes from pretty much anywhere. There is also a small Windows Mobile app that allows you to capture and post rich media. The second killer feature (while not unique to Evernote, OneNote has had this and even voice to text for ages) the ability to index text referenced inside pictures can be invaluable.
Some other exciting features include the web clipper that uses a bookmarklet to provide quick clipping of web content and the ability to create notes with an email address that’s automatically created for every user.
I’d love to see more formatting options. Bulleted and numbered lists are sadly lacking at this point. Also as far as I can tell there aren’t that many keyboard shortcuts for zooming around in the interface.

I have been looking at web based note taking solutions recently, the best options I’ve found are Google Notebook and Zoho Notebook, but they don’t really work for me because they lack off-line support and the ability to search into media.
In any case, this is an app I’ve been looking for for quite a long time, and it seems to me that the Evernote folks are going to take this space by storm!
